No matter how old we are, at some point in life all of us face the reality of our own mortality and the finite amount of time we have on earth. Maybe it’s morbid but it’s an epiphany that can drastically change how we approach each day, and that has become the backbone of actor and musician Kevin Quinn’s creative endeavours.

After a stint on American Idol, Kevin got his start as a Disney star in their hit series Bunk’d before playing the lead role in Netflix’ faith-based summer camp musical A Week Away, and now he’s returning to music with his EP It’s About Time.

The five-track project is the product of years of questions Kevin was asking about faith and life, and one that reflects his intense desire to use time well.

Kevin says, “I had a lot of questions that spawned from me coming of age and especially coming to terms with my own mortality”.

“It took me losing a couple of friends along the way for me to realise I didn’t know anything about my existence, or my purpose and why I was here,” he said.

“So, I tried to find answers and I just found that all the answers I was looking for, and that I felt I needed to hear, were in the Bible.

“It was like everything was laid out to me so clearly, and I realised that this life is a blessing and a miracle, and it should be treated that way.”

At 16, Kevin shared he lost a friend, who died in a car accident involving a drunk driver.

“That was really difficult for me,” he said.

“I didn’t have the capacity and, literally, the brain chemistry to be able to process it in a mature way.

“When I was informed about her death, the first thing I did when I got home from school was to instinctively brush it off, and then assume that she would be coming back. It took me a couple years to realise that wasn’t going to happen.”

As Kevin has gotten older, this loss and his continual desire to understand and think deeply about life has left him with an intentional commitment to leave a positive legacy when he one day passes away.

“Love is a choice,” – Kevin Quinn

The question he considers is, “was I good to you?”.

“And I think that extends beyond just family, friends and loved ones,” Kevin said.

“God is good, and God treats us with a good heart, and we’re all made in the image of God.

“I feel like it’s our responsibility to do good towards our neighbour.

“So often it’s easy to feel bitter, or resentful or mean-spirited about something, but we don’t have to do that. Love is a choice.”
